Expand-A-Pan was formed as an idea to help you, the trapper, to take more fur. After seeing countless misses on our own trap line with tracks inside the jaw spread of our traps, and also hearing one of our trapping mentors, Clint Locklear ofTrapping Radio, chronicle the same problems that he was facing, we were challenged to develop a solution to this problem. The problem was that animals were stepping inside the jaws of our traps, but not on the pans to fire the traps, and ultimately we were missing the catch. Being farm-boys by trade, versed in fabrication, working with metal, and solving problems, the light bulb went off in our head for the concept of Expand-A-Pan. We thought “what if we could fill as much space as possible inside the jaws of the trap with a huge, over-sized pan”. We guessed that the chances of a miss would be greatly diminished using this principle, and the idea proved to be correct. The engineering, geometry, tolerances, and clearances necessary for proper trap function were challenging to say the least! At one time while we were designing the different models of Expand-A-Pans, our scrap (or reject) pile was nearly 3 feet tall. But our “good enough ain’t good enough” mind set forced us, through trial and error, to find the correct tolerances and resulted in Expand-A-Pan products that work, are easy to use and install, and most of all, catches YOU, the trapper, more fur!
